What is wrong with Apple?

I love my iPhone but quickly other devices are catching up. Additionally the shortcomings of the phone become more apparent everyday. Besides no video, no cut and paste and no picture text the App Store is becoming a real problem.

When the App Store began most of the Apps had a purpose and would allow you to get more out of your phone. Now it seems like all fart noises and other bullshit. I understand the place for these novelty items, but why no Sirius App and where the fuck is the Slingbox App. They both have been ready for months and Apple is holding them up. They risk giving up all the ground they gained over the past two years with this product.

Stop arbitrarily holding up quality apps or you will find more Blackberry users.

air mouse a handy little app

I have been considering buying this app for a while but wanted to have a purpose for it. Essentially this app turns the iphone into a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Overall the quality of the mouse is equal to the quality of your network. So for the most part it works perfectly. The truth is that the keyboard and side computer functions are the real value.

My standard wireless mouse is only slightly bulkier than the iphone. However a standard keyboard is monsterous compared to my phone. I use this to control the computer connected in my home theater. It's great not to have to go reaching for the clunky keyboard I just reach in my pocket.

Set up was pretty simple and they offer good troubleshooting. I recommend it if you know before hand where you will use it.

Memory stick on iPhone

Still have that wired James bond looking thing on your keychain. Well it is time to throw it away.

There are a few new apps for the iphone that allow you to transfer files onto the iPhone for storage wirelessly.
I chose memory stick for 1.99.

This works by either navigating a web browser to your phones ip or map a network drive.

Kindle for iPhone?

I installed the kindle application from Amazon a few weeks ago. I have yet to get it to work. Every time I try and add content to the phone online I am told there are no iPhone registered to my account. I have followed all directions.

In truth I dont know the value of thsi application which is part of why I have not sought out any work arounds. I will wait for new updates to try again.

TV.com Beats Hulu to the Punch

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of a hulu.com iPhone app. There is no concrete news on this as of yet. However TV.com which is owned by CBS launched their app this week. Its free for download from the App store right now.

I have played with with it a little. Overall it is nice. The search function also includes tv.com approved youtube. Also it works without wifi unlike JOOST. Though the video quality on Wifi is very nice.

Truthfully I am not a fan of CBS' shows save How I met Your Mother. Which they dont have full espisodes of. I found little interesting content. Old Star Trek epsiodes sound cooler than they are in real life. Plus they break them down into 8 minute segments.Hulu has Family Guy, the Simpsons, 24, 30 Rock and more of my favorites. Thus TV.com is boring. I will stick to watching West Wing episodes via Orb.

Using Your iPhone to Run a Store

Lately I have wanted to see how much work or commerce one can do from an iPhone. Recently my company launched a test site closeout megastore. We are tinkering with a new product called datafeedr. Which is a wordpress plugin that makes it easy to create an ecommerce store on the fly.

While sitting on my couch the other day I was able to add over 200 products to my site. I admit this is not the same wonder as you get from google maps when you are lost or waisting away playing tap defense. However it is important to note that the iPhone Safari is a powerful web browser capable of most things you can do on your desktop. I wish they would add a new flash update. I guess they cant becasue then the web would really open up.

Usirius App Denied Nut Wait

According to many reports the Usirius iPhone app was denied by Apple. This news came on Friday. Over the weekend Sirius sent out emails touting a big announcement with now 3 ways to listen to Sirius.

This most likely means that Sirius is about to launch an iPhone or mobile apps. There is an outside chance that this will be a Direct TV announcement. Considering John Malone will end up owning 40% of the company you have to figure this is coming sometime.

I feel bad for the guys at uSirius. They spent all this time to have it yanked out from underneath them. Truth is that they never owned the valuable product: the content. I hope they get something. I still recommend using Orb, Usirius and replay AV to create a fantastic on the go DRR (digital radio recorder)
